November 2003. Grey skies, icy streets and temperatures that
keep everything but the postal workers inside. After 9 years
on the North American punk/rock scene, Calgary mainstays, Downway,
decide to pack it in after boasting 5 albums,4 videos,8 years
of touring and a slew of fans around the world. Everyone remains
friends, but not everyone is ready to call it quits playing
music. One month earlier Downway's Dave Pederson and Mac Barber
have already begun writing new songs with friend Jesse Fizzel.
These songs were never intended to be Downway songs. These new
songs were intended to be the first of many new songs for a
new band the three were forming. All they needed was a bass
player. Bass players are pretty scarce sometimes so they did
what anyone else would do. Find a great bass player from a great
band and ask the guy to join your band. And that's how Marek
from Deville became the final piece in this new un-named band.
Fast forward to June 2004. The band has an album's worth of
material, They've never played a show. No one outside the confines
of a concrete South Calgary basement has heard a note from these
guys. Marek is no longer in Deville and is in the un-named band
full time now. The first show is slated for June 25th @ The
Black Swan in Calgary w/Chixdiggit. At this point this band
needs a name and after kicking around more than a few ideas,
RED CITY ANTHEM is born. The rest remains to be seen as Dave
Pederson.Mac Barber,Jesse Fizell and Marek launch what very
well could be your new favorite band.
With an EP slated for a late 2004 release
on Triple Threat Records, and shows all over Western Canada,
it won't be long until you find Red City Anthem in your local
venue or in your CD player.

MP3s coming soon.
